FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MORGANTOWN, WV (Feb. 25, 2010)- Elkins (WV) Speedway has seen many changes over the last several race seasons but recently, most changes have been positive.
2009 Elkins Speedway promoter A.J. Rockwell has revealed that recent business opportunities have presented themselves outside the dirt racing world and he and West Virginia Motorsports Promotions have pursued those interests and will no longer be affiliated with the Kerens, West Virginia dirt race track.
"Over the winter many business opportunities have become available and from a financial point-of-view, I just couldn't pass them up, said departing race track promoter A.J. Rockwell.
Enter former Elkins Speedway promoter D.Jay Miller; "The timing seemed right and it's exciting to be back at the speedway", said Miller. Miller was part of a group who turned Elkins Speedway into a positive situation in the early 2000's but this time he will have a larger role in running the speedway.
Miller went on to say, " A.J. is certainly leaving Elkins Speedway in a lot better shape than what he found it in, and we look forward to building on that momentum and moving Elkins Speedway further into the dirt track racing spotlight."
Jimmy Henry, Elkins Speedway spokesman commented, "This should be a seemless transition, from one promoter to the next...from those who reserved pit parking, to the A.M.R.A. sanctioning in the modifieds, to the car show at the Meadowbrook Mall...nothing will change at all."
Henry went on to say, " We should have the 2010 schedule out in time for the mall show, or atleat a rough draft of it. DJay is looking forward to once again being involved in the day-to-day operations of the track and I look forward to being a little more involved in the track with him."
Miller further commented, "It's looking like the last Friday in April will be our practice night, with the first Friday in May being opening night, so we are looking forward to that . We will also be releasing all the great sponsors who will be on board for this season."
